EVERLASTING ARMS
That draw us into the depths of God's love.

This painting was inspired by a revelation which I will forever find difficult to explain, but I long to bless you as it blessed me. The Lord had asked me to read the book of Colossians every day, while I fasted, and on the 21st day He broke these words open for me:

"For it pleased the Father that in Him [Jesus] all the fullness should dwell, and by Him [Jesus] to reconcile all things to Himself [Father], by Him [Jesus], whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross." – Colossians 1:19-20

What I was shown was the love relationship between God the Father and His Son Jesus. It was this extraordinary openness, this sharing, this unity that is impossible to describe. There are absolutely no barriers, no selfish corners of their hearts reserved from the other. There is just this unbelievable and complete giving of themselves to each other – entirely. The immensity of that love so overwhelmed me that I wept for hours. And as I did, the Lord's love enveloped me, and He showed me that that is the love relationship He welcomes us into. He wants to love us like that and have us love Him back the same way.

“‘...love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." – Matthew 22:37b

This revelation brought with it such a tangible presence of the love of God, that it hung with me day and night for a long time afterwards. Eventually when I tried to depict the experience I decided to paint the moment when Jesus offered Himslef to His Father on the cross. Except, instead of a cross I had Him giving Himself over into His Father's hands. And instead of nails, I painted a sweet smelling sacrifice coming from the wounds in His hands. This will forever be a treasured memory God granted me. We have so little understanding of the length and depth of the love God has for us. May we keep seeking to understand more of what He has come to offer us. And with Paul:

"I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power... to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge" – Ephesians 3: 17b-19
